- About Me
The story behind the strategy.
Communications work, at its best, is invisible — it just feels like an organization’s mission is easy to understand, easy to trust, and easy to support. Getting there is anything but simple. That’s the work Bella Yahaya spent the last five-plus years doing: building the strategy, systems, and teams behind organizations whose missions depend on being heard clearly, across languages, cultures, and borders.
She spent her career at the intersection of strategy and storytelling — leading communications functions for mission-driven organizations at full operating capacity, managing cross-functional teams, running multi-country campaigns, and translating ambitious organizational goals into high-performing communications that build visibility, deepen stakeholder engagement, and generate measurable impact.
Most recently, Bella served as Head of the Content and Communications Department at PASS USA, a Minnesota-based nonprofit expanding access to education for refugee and conflict-affected youth. In that role, she led a communications operation spanning five countries — the United States, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia — working in close coordination with the Executive Director on strategy, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement across every location.
Her scope there covered the full range of organizational content and communications, not just storytelling. She managed the content production calendar and led the content team through planning and delivery across newsletters, website copy, and internal and external communications. Bella developed and reviewed materials for the leadership team to ensure consistent messaging and tone across every channel, managed ongoing communications to partners, donors, and stakeholders to keep them informed and engaged.
Alongside this, Bella directed a multidisciplinary team through video storytelling projects and cross-border student collaborations — providing editorial oversight from raw footage to final cut, working closely with video editors, and coordinating subtitle review for interviews conducted in students’ second language, to make sure authenticity was preserved alongside professional polish. Operating across multiple time zones and cultural contexts at once, she secured speaking engagements, cultivated partnerships with nonprofit leaders and educational institutions, and scaled the organization’s visibility while safeguarding the dignity of every story told.
Before that, as Campaign Manager at RUOVA, Bella led advocacy, fundraising, and awareness campaigns simultaneously for multiple nonprofit clients — managing full campaign lifecycles from strategy through execution. She supervised multidisciplinary teams of social media managers, content creators, copywriters, graphic designers, and video editors, often running several concurrent workstreams to keep every project on schedule and aligned with client objectives.
Beyond PASS USA and RUOVA, her work has carried her across a wider range of contexts still — US. based organizations, African institutions, and European partners — each with its own audiences, regulatory realities, and communication norms to navigate.
Across every role, one thread has stayed constant: leading at capacity. Managing people, content production, and cross-border complexity across every channel — without losing sight of strategic goals or storytelling integrity. That’s the leadership she brings to every team and organization she works with.

Coordinating across borders — from the desk to the field.

Scale without losing the story.
Working across countries, cultures, and time zones means constant prioritization — and it means every message has to hold up under different contexts without losing its integrity. My approach is built on that tension: growing an organization’s visibility and reach while protecting the dignity of the people and stories behind it. Whether it’s a donor newsletter, a leadership statement, or a subtitle on a video interview conducted in someone’s second language, the standard is the same — professional polish that never comes at the cost of authenticity.
